Ep # 21 Claire Byrne: An unforgettable class act.
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
Claire Byrne has been a prolific performer with theatre groups that we, The Creative Couple, have been a part of for many years as well as a life long friend. Claire grew up in a performing family which we have had the pleasure of sharing the stage throughout our early years in theatre. Claire is a committed actor who gives her all to the roles she inhabits and has an amazing sense of comedic timing. We remember fondly her portrayal of Sister Amnesia in two productions of 'Nunsense', a role that required her to dance, sing, wear a habit, take up ventriloquism and master a role she was born to play. It was a pleasure to watch her grow into the performer that she is and continue our treasured friendship.

Ep # 20 Jimmy Cupples: the lad with an immigrant song and a dream.
Sunday Jul 12, 2020
Sunday Jul 12, 2020
We've been lucky to have known Jimmy Cupples for quite a few years now, long before his appearance on the Australian version of 'The Voice' (2012). Jimmy is such a generous soul and very giving of his time and talent. Starting life in Scotland, Jimmy was always surrounded by music from his parents who both sang to the pub culture influence of inclusion and sing-a-longs of post war Great Britain. When his family emigrated to Australia the performing aspect of the family continued with Jimmys parents playing venues around Melbourne with Jimmy following suit some years later with a performance on The John McMahon Show (otherwise known for the three gongs voting system) which gave flight to his performing career. Since then Jimmy has performed with his band Amped as well as numerous appearances on TV on Midday shows, Good Morning Australia (GMA), the Steve Vizard Show right up to The Voice. These days Jimmy has recently completed a tour as a tribute to Tom Jones around the country and is branching out with an original project, with guitarist James Ryan, titled KING CANYON (follow the link below for more details). We wish Jimmy every success with his new venture and stay safe during these times of uncertainty.

Sunday Jun 28, 2020
Christmas displays come in varied styles, colours, themes and electricity bills. In Wyndham, every year, there is one stand out display that few have been able to rival. Christmas Thomas (The Tank Engine) has become a favourite for locals, and indeed, out-of-towners as people travel from the other side of town and interstate to visit this highly interactive display. The man behind this awesome display is Brett Lockwood. Brett has built a following with his display that see's him working throughout the year to add touches and refinements, while spending his Novembers putting everything in place for the December 1st switching on of the lights. Brett has also refined his Thomas (accompanied by Annie & Clarabell) over the years to include a bubble blowing smokestack, hand made train whistle and Christmas movies projected from Thomas himself, as well as a host of interactive displays for all children of all ages to enjoy. Brett truly loves Christmas and the spirit it embodies. Should you wish to know more please drop by the Christmas Thomas Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/1443788135856320/about/

Ep # 18 Jua Park: A beautiful spirit and voice to match
Sunday Jun 14, 2020
Sunday Jun 14, 2020
In this episode we bring you our conversation with Jua Park. Originally from South Korea, Jua has settled in Melbourne's West and we are lucky to have her beautiful spirit and voice with us. Jua talks to us about her early life in South Korea and her less than traditional leanings from the society norm which tends to focus on the academic rather than the artistic. Prior to coming to Australia Jua performed in rock bands before meeting her partner and emigrating with her young son. Jua has found it a challenge to find an avenue for her talents, often performing at social & corporate engagements as a soloist. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties our interview was not completely finished however her desire to continue performing and entertaining was her ultimate dream. During the interview you will hear Jua perform a snippet of her own composition and a beautiful rendition of 'Nella Fantasio' from the 1986 film, 'The Mission'. We hope you enjoy this conversation.

Ep # 17 Gillian Braumueller: A secret love
Sunday May 31, 2020
Sunday May 31, 2020
This week we talk to Gillian Braumueller who has been a dear friend of the Creative Couple for many years. When we were doing promo for our theatre group we came upon the idea of putting together a four piece singing group. Gill was managing a 50's-60's themed rock'n'roll diner (Hot Rocks Cafe) and gave us a gig, to which, we are forever grateful to her. As time drew on we came to know Gill and her family and her circle of friends which lead us to performing on numerous local karaoke nights together. However when we first met Gill, she was not a fan of singing or having that spotlight on her. She provided the opportunity for others to shine, us included. Gill has a deep affinity with music from her success in finding her voice and performing to having some of her darkest memories hold her back from allowing her to enjoy something she is gifted with. This was an emotional conversation both during and after and we thank Gill for allowing us the chance to let her shine in her own words.

Ep # 16 Mark King: Will the real Mark King please stand up?
Sunday May 17, 2020
Sunday May 17, 2020
In this episode we talk to a dear friend, Mark King. Mark was introduced to us by a mutual friend as he had an idea for a project and required a singer. Since that time, we have remained good friends and assisted each other on a number of musical projects including a role as musical director for a production of Nunsense. Mark is a very talented pianist, arranger, band leader and one of the easiest people to work with that we've come across. We have certainly challenged him on a few projects and he has been equal to the task. Mark talks about his history in the music world including a sliding doors moment with Gene Simmons, and wife Shannon, and his near famous experience being mistaken for Mark King of Level 42 fame. We hope you enjoy this episode.

Sunday Mar 29, 2020

David was a somewhat dormant creative who stepped into the world of writing, seemingly by chance. From attending a local writers group afternoon, in support of his partner, to currently working on his third novel (with a fourth in the wings), David has certainly been bitten by the creative bug. In this conversation we talk with David about his inspiration for the 'Engle Byen' series, how his dormant passion was awakened and his plans for his writing future. In this episode we talk to another life-long friend in Jacki Bird. Jacki has been a prolific actor in a vast number of the theatre shows we've produced for through our and other companies. Having a keen interest in arts & drama at school Jacki branched out to a local theatre company where her fate was sealed artistically. She is a dedicated performer, often having memorised her lines before a single rehearsal has been run. In this conversation we discuss her philosophy of acting, her early years learning piano & flute, her dedication when heavily pregnant and unwell and her capacity for laughter which has been known to challenge world records! Jacki also talks about her aspiration to write novels which we hope to enjoy in the future.

Ep # 13 Trish Simpson: Hey there, Georgie Girl!
Sunday Feb 23, 2020
Sunday Feb 23, 2020
Growing up with non-musical parents with music all around the house is something we hear quite often. Trish is no exception. From listening to her parents radio in Sri Lanka in her formative years (which was stolen BTW) to her family emigrating and starting a new life in Melbourne, from a young age Trish nurtured a love of music which led her to find her voice and learn guitar. Our paths crossed, by chance, while performing at summer markets together around Wyndham and discovered a mutual love of the kinds of gigs we were involved with and relishing the chance to entertain at various events. As well as hosting Morning Melodies events at Senior Citizens homes around Melbourne, Trish is a member of the Australian Womens Chior (directed by Wendy Stapleton & Paul Norton) which has been involved in many public events over the last few years. We talk to Trish about her self taught path of singing and guitar playing, her approach to performing, coping with nerves and seeing the effect that her performances have on those who witness them. Country music is a key influence on her style while also loving folk bands such as The Seekers, Georgie Girl always finding its way onto her set list!

Ep # 12 Jo Lally: Generous of spirit and soul
Sunday Feb 16, 2020
Sunday Feb 16, 2020
Jo Lally is a person who has dabbled in many areas of the arts with a heart as big as Uluru. She is such a warm and generous personality and, as such, is the kind of soul that people just gravitate to. She lives without pretense, is always keen for a conversation and can name drop without a hint of arrogance or self aggrandising. As she puts it, they're just her friends! In our conversation, which took place in late 2019, we talk about Jo as an author, singer, reluctant actor, puppeteer, fairy and one time super nanny. We also talk of her concert series where musical artists perform in an intimate setting for a small audience, in her home, on selected Sunday afternoons. If you've ever met Jo we're sure you're experience was just as warm and friendly as a big hug! She is just that kind of person, generous of spirit and soul!
